If the big long-haul honeymoon in the sun is your priority, then it could be
worth organising that first, then planning the wedding around it. Do some
serious homework - are the prices cheaper at certain times of year because it is
the rainy season? Check out with
www.tripadvisor.com to get the low-down on
resorts and even specific hotels, from people who have actually stayed
there. It is
definitely worth shopping around - you will often find the same hotel with
several tour companies at different prices -but make sure you are getting like
for like and remember to factor in things like regional airport supplements.
Obviously going during school term time is a big saving for most resorts.
Remember to let everyone involved know that the holiday is your honeymoon
(take your marriage licence to prove it). Package tours may not
have a lot in the way of perks but you may be able to get an upgrade on a
commercial flight.
Buying on the internet is mainly cheaper than using a High Street travel
agent and do shop around for your travel insurance. Prices differ widely
but read the small print and make sure you are getting exactly what you need.
Bear in mind that organising a wedding can be stressful, as can going on a
long haul holiday - do you really want all that in three weeks? Airport
delays, lost luggage and upset stomachs can spoil your romantic get away.
Why not book a few days in a country house hotel or even a pretty cottage, with
lots of walks, log fires and trips to the pub. Save the glamorous holiday
for later, when you can afford it.
